# Workspace health

> Use Alignr's health page to check evidence collection, client coverage and outstanding follow-up work.

Open **Settings → Workspace health** or [go to the health page](https://app.alignr.io/health). The page asks **Is Alignr working?** and brings together collection, assessment coverage, overdue manual reviews and remediation follow-up across your workspace. Your role needs dashboard access.

Use this page when you want to know whether Alignr has current information to work with. Use a client's assessment to find out whether that client meets your standards.

## Start with the summary

Select **Check health** to refresh the health report. This reads the current operational state; it does not start source collection, run an assessment or repair a connection.

Check **Last checked** and the automatic evidence check message. If health cannot be checked, any results still visible are last-known information. They are not a current all-clear.

| Summary | How to read it |
| -------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| No operational warnings detected | No warnings were detected in this report. Continue to inspect the scope and timestamps; this is not a claim that all client controls pass. |
| Client coverage | Clients with current live results and no outstanding automated evidence or coverage gaps. A failing control still counts as assessed. |
| Manual reviews | Overdue human reviews. Follow **Review assigned work** to complete the relevant review. |
| Remediation | Runs awaiting verification and unresolved failures. Follow **Review runs** to inspect the outcome and next action. |

The **What needs attention** section links to recovery work. Warnings clear when the underlying condition clears; refreshing the page does not dismiss them.

## Check the sources

The **Sources** table shows each source's state, last successful collection, latest attempt, next expected collection and client links.

| State | Meaning and next step |
| ---------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Current | A successful collection is within the source's expected cadence. Inspect client coverage next. |
| Collecting | A recent collection is running. Review its progress before starting another. |
| Overdue | A collection is late or has run longer than expected. Open the source and inspect its history and recovery hint. |
| Needs attention | The source has an error. Review its connection and collection history. |
| Not configured | Setup or a first successful collection is still needed. Follow the source's recovery hint. |
| Disabled | The source is disabled. Decide whether it should be active for this workspace. |
| Simulated | This source uses simulated data. It does not establish live coverage. |
| Client directory | This source supplies client records; it is not an assessment evidence source. |

**Last success** is more useful than the latest attempt alone: an attempted collection may have failed. **Next expected collection** describes the cadence, not a guaranteed completion time.

Use **Manage sources** to review connections. If client links are awaiting matching, [map the source records](/guides/organizations) to the correct clients. For a Microsoft-specific access gap, check the client's [Microsoft connection choice](/guides/client-microsoft-connections).

## Read client coverage

Search for a client in **Client coverage**, then open it to inspect individual controls and evidence requirements.

| Column | What it tells you |
| --------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Current results | Assessed outcomes, including passing and failing controls. Read alongside the last evaluation and readiness label. |
| Need evidence | Controls whose evidence is insufficient to establish an outcome. |
| No coverage | Controls without the required coverage. Review sources and supported observations. |
| Excluded | Controls outside the client's assessment scope. Exclusion is not a pass. |
| Last evaluation | When the client's assessment was last evaluated. |

The **Current assessment** label requires live evidence, at least one assessed outcome, an evaluation within the last 24 hours, and no outstanding need-evidence or no-coverage results. An old result count alone does not satisfy that check.

For example, Acme can have current assessment coverage while an administrator's MFA check is failing. Alignr has enough evidence to answer the question; the answer still needs attention. A missing MFA observation is an evidence gap instead.

## Recover in the right order

1. **Restore collection.** Open a source with an error or overdue collection, review its hint and history, and correct the connection or permissions as needed.
2. **Check client mapping.** Confirm the collected records belong to the intended client.
3. **Collect and assess.** Verify fresh evidence, then run the relevant standard. Refreshing health alone does neither.
4. **Complete follow-up work.** Review failed controls, overdue manual checks and remediation verification separately.
5. **Check health again.** Confirm the timestamps, coverage and underlying warnings have changed as expected.

If automatic evidence checks are paused, stale, unavailable or report a configuration issue, you can still refresh connected tools manually. Contact [Alignr support](mailto:support@alignr.io) for help with the automatic check service.

## Keep the three questions separate

* **What remains to configure?** Use [the setup wizard and readiness page](/guides/setup-wizard).
* **Is collection and follow-up working?** Use Workspace health.
* **Does this client meet the expectation?** Open its [control results](/guides/control-status) and inspect the evidence.

**Your checkpoint:** every operational warning has an understood next action, and you can distinguish healthy collection from passing client controls.
